Our world is constantly changing. What may be the usual or routine behavior one year may change the next. Knowing this, counselors and teachers often reexamine the need to of applying career development theory to counseling and fit it into modern times.
Individuals go through the process of career development to learn more about themselves and their career paths knowing a combination of the two leads them to know more about their identity in the cosmopolitan world.
Those who take continual education, join internships and apprenticeships, attend seminars and courses and continue research tend to succeed in their careers better than those who stop, or slow down the learning process after they begin a career. Businesses know and rely on this to stay ahead of other companies.
One early career development theory focused on stages concerning the adolescent phase, the ******* through teen phase, and young adulthood.
The adolescent phase is the phase where the world is opening up to the child. “What do I want to be when I grow up” is thought of, but isn’t important. For instance, one adolescent may pretend to be a dancer, while at the same time she wants to be a doctor, a scientist, a veterinarian, and an artist. She is too young yet to know if she will want to follow these career choices later in life.
In the ******* to teen phase of this career development theory, the individual starts to be inclined towards what she likes to do. What areas she excels at and finds useful. The female child in the earlier example has only a passing interest in dancing and art. Her activities and knowledge begins to lean towards science and health while preferring to study the ins and outs of domestic animals.
This is when she considers research and classes she will need to continue in these fields. Through the career development theory we see she is starting to think more about what she wants to be when she grows up.
The final step in this career development theory is the individual’s preferences, likes and dislikes that lead her to the career she eventually chooses. In this example, the female decides she would rather work more with animals than people and chooses to become a veterinarian. She now needs to go beyond high school, take required courses, and train with professionals in order to take on her career goal.
Teachers and experts can apply the career development theory to counseling when dealing with the growth and development of a child. They can advise and monitor how a child behaves and the potential of what they were to become when they get older.

James Stephenson asked:
Egoists would view our actions in any situation as being solely based on our own self interests. If exhibiting good ethics were the means to that end, then they are supported and encouraged. Egoists do not allow for motivations other than the self promotion of the individual or organization.
In the corporate world the general belief seems to be that the interests of the corporation take precedence over the application of ethical standards. Some believe that ethics are hostile to corporate self interests and those organizations that follow courses of action based on their own self interests will treat ethics as optional: Following those ethics that will benefit the organization the most, disregarding those that will not further their interests. There is even a commonly stated belief that business leaders encourage their subordinates to do “whatever it takes” regardless of ethical considerations.
Utilitarian theorists believe that our actions should be based on the minimization of harm and maximization. This would imply that we should only promote our self interest if the net effect of our actions will do more good than harm. If the ultimate goal is to provide the most benefit to the individual or organization, and following a standard of good ethical conduct will accomplish that goal, then that is the course of action that should be taken. If on the other hand the situation called for setting aside conducts of good ethics then that would be the choice to make.
Kantian theorists would argue that respect for the individual is of the highest priority and that any conduct should be in a manner that will maintain the dignity and respect that all individuals deserve. This would seem to preclude the area of self interest and turn our attention outwards, to those around us.
Many believe though, that it is still possible to have self interest in a given situation, if their actions follow in accordance with accepted ethical standards and allow those around them to freely make the choices they are presented with.
Overall it appears that the ethical theories as presented, both support, and refute, the principle that “self interest and good ethics generally coincide”. Support coincides with their stated theories: Egoist - if it serves the self interest of the individual/organization. Utilitarian - if it creates the most good and the least harm. Kantian - if the dignity and respect of the individual is maintained and/or the individual willfully accepts it. But, the theories are also refuted, in that they may be adapted, or, in many cases, ignored depending on the particular needs, wants, and situations that organizations face.
As opposed to following a strict set of guidelines that must be applied in all cases, it appears that conflict, and its resolution, will ultimately be determined by the goals and basis of philosophy of the organization, and applied on a case by case, situational, basis.

I have finally hit pay dirt; I discovered the Microsoft Word Resume Template. In case you don’t remember, my current life quest is to develop the ultimate resume. Not a quirky obsession - okay maybe it is - but it’s also necessary. My company thinks they can do without me. I’m sure they can’t, but we agreed to disagree on that point. They’ve given me until the start of next year to find a new cubicle somewhere else. So now I’m on the 3 month countdown to my next new and exciting career (I hope).
Being none too resume savvy, I’ve been exploring what’s out there in terms of resume helpers. And now I’ve found (drum roll please) the Microsoft Word Resume Templates. This is so sweet.
So I go online, find this page for Microsoft Office Online. There are a lot of job specific examples, but I decide to check out the Basic designs, since I’m a pretty down to earth guy. And there it is, singing to me (I get emotional about these things): the Oriel theme Microsoft Word resume template.
I had to look up Oriel in the dictionary and it means a bay window. I don’t know what that’s all about. The design has an orange bar down the right side with an orange circle near the bottom right corner. Your name goes on the Orange bar in a vertical alignment, along with the basic contact info: address, phone, email. Then the main resume info goes in normal format to the left of the orange bar. This template suggests four sections to complete: Objective, Skills, Experience, and Education. It’s simple, has some flair I love it.
Next I venture into the career specific resumes, just for kicks. They have everything from Accounts Payable to Warehouse Management. I decide to check out the resume for a helicopter pilot. I always wanted to be one. It shows the usual headers: education, qualifications but then it has some career specific entries: Licenses and Certifications, and Flight Hours (and we’re not talking frequent flyer miles).
Now I’m hooked on this whole Microsoft Word Resume Template site. I’ve got to check out the situation specific resumes. I’m hoping they’ll have one for the thirty-something, slightly balding (only slightly, mind you. A microscopic bit of receding hairline, actually. And no, I’m not sensitive about this at all. Why did I even bring it up?), professional who wants to have fun and get paid for it.
Let’s check out “Career Change Resume with Volunteer Experience.” It’s pretty standard, but includes a “profile” section instead of the “objective” section. And it focuses on experience rather than specific employment details. Lets you state your strengths in more general terms so you aren’t cubby holed into a specific career path.
There are other situation specific examples, such as high school graduate, college graduate, and return to workforce.
If you’re like me - and for the sake of the workforce let’s hope you’re not - then you’ll probably find this Microsoft Word Resume Templates site to be of great help. And no, I’m not paid by Microsoft to say this.

Lynne A Saarte asked:
You may think that you want a different advertising flyer every time you want to promote your business. But what about brand identity? If you keep changing your flyers for every event, no one will recognize it’s you. If your store always has the same kind of sale every fall, why not make a template so that you reduce your future flyer printing costs by saving time on the design? If you have an event every quarter or every season, people will start to notice your advertising flyers if you use the same flyer each time.
You can create your own template in Microsoft Word that works well with black-and-white or color flying printing. That way, you’ll get two different looks from the same complete flyer design.
Or, you could use a template for just the basics. You can insert your company’s name, address, Web site address and whatever other information you keep consistent on your flyers in your template, and then later go back and customize the template for each event. You can add different photos each time, and move the photos around, but keep the text in the same place.
Don’t forget your logo. Not only do you need the text basics mentioned above, you also need to make sure that your logo is in the template. That’s your company’s identity, so you don’t want to forget that! Your logo doesn’t have to in a prominent position - you’ll most likely want photos to dominate your flyer design, but keep that logo on there somewhere, and use colors in your photo and logo that complement each other so that neither is competing with the other.
You can also use templates from flyer printing companies if you aren’t confident in your artistic talents. Some templates you can’t customize, but those are for the people who generally don’t care to anyway. In most cases you can customize the companies’ templates to come up with a unique design for your company or product, or you can ask that the company come up with some template design ideas for you. One good thing about using a color flyer printing company is that they usually have a professional designer on board that can help you design or alter your template.
Make sure that your template is appropriate for your industry. There are many online companies with flyer templates that you can choose from that pertain to different industries. If you don’t want a flyer that is too generic, then think about your company and what you want to impart to people that see your flyers. If you want to look regal and professional, choose a template that has muted colors and elegant design. If your company plans parties, then bring out the colorful templates and fun graphics! Just make sure whatever template you choose reflects your company or product.

If it is not economically feasible for you to pay for a resume service, you can use a free Word resume template. A free sample resume can help you create a resume quickly. The layouts are already prepared, so you don’t waste time trying to setting the layouts yourself. Free resume templates are used a lot, and you are able to edit them to your liking.
Free Microsoft Word samples are like other free sample resumes. Having a good resume sample can shave off time in that they’re already formatted. They also have free resume samples that can be presented in a professional manner. The Microsoft samples are also tailored to put in the information that is needed.
The free Microsoft resumes have different formats. If you’re using the software, the resume package is pre-installed. The package includes Professional, Contemporary and Elegant templates that you can use. The Microsoft resume templates also have different formats: Entry Level, Chronological, Functional and Professional. Also included in the resume package of the software is a resume builder. The resume builder guides you through the steps of creating your resume. You just click and enter the information as requested.
You can find Word resumes online by typing in “free Word Resume Template”. To access free sample resumes from the Microsoft® website itself, go to the website and search for them. Follow the instructions for downloading.
You can create a presentable resume from the free Word samples, if you choose to use them. However, there are some people who are against using these free resumes because they consider them “cookie-cutter”. In other words, your resume doesn’t stand out because you used the same resume that many others used. Within the different formats and styles, you should be able to select one that best fits you. You can also modify it to your specifications.
The free Word resume templates differ from the pre-installed ones in the software. The purpose is to find a sample resume that is different and stands out. The free Word resume sample can do what other resumes can do. They provide formatting with headings and sections in the right place. The resume templates also include different fonts and designs, and it’s easy to enter the information you need.
